Steelworkers Ratify Contracts at Cleveland-Cliffs’ Mines
The four-year contract features significant wage and benefit improvements, as well as Cliffs’ commitment to invest in the future of the USW represented facilities.
Mining exists in many countries. The US mining industry is large, but it is dominated by the coal and other nonmetal minerals (e.g., rock and sand), and various regulations have worked to reduce the significance of mining in the United States. While exploration and mining can be conducted by individual entrepreneurs or small businesses, most modern-day mines are large enterprises requiring large amounts of capital to establish.

The proposed agreement provides important economic and contract language improvements that will improve working conditions along with the standard of living for USW members and their families.
Members of the USW and workers from five other international unions voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new contract covering about 420 workers at the Pinto Valley Mine.
