Sub-committees Bring Members’ Issues Forward

Your USW negotiating committee continued bargaining with USS this week.

At a handful of locations, we still have outstanding local issues. Those local unions are making progress as they continue to meet with USS to resolve issues.

To dig deeper on key issues and identify solutions, the bargaining team has been assigned to sub-committees. Local unions have representation on the sub-committees which are:

  • Contract Language
  • Benefits
  • Safety
  • Contracting Out
  • Office and Technical/Fire and Security
  • Training

Over the last two weeks, each sub-committee has been hard at work. This is what the process looks like:

  • Meet internally to identify issues and develop proposals, using the results of the bargaining survey.
  • Present our proposals to USS counterparts and answer questions from the company.
  • The company, as in every bargaining, makes proposals on their wants.
  • We evaluate company proposals and respond.

The goal of each sub-committee is to make progress on our issues, and several of the committees are reporting positive discussions so far.

Our Communication and Action Teams (CAT) led a successful sticker action last week to show the company we’re “Forged Together.” Thank you for your participation and support as bargaining progresses!
