Republic Shutdown Update
On August 17th the Union met with the Company to discuss the “indefinite idling” of Republic’s Canton, OH; Massillon, OH, and Lackawanna, NY facilities.
During the meeting, the Company committed to provide the benefits of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for laid-off employees, with regard to healthcare benefits and SPT payments.
The Union sent the Company an information request on August 23rd and is currently waiting on the Company’s responses.
Once the information request is satisfied, the Union will be making a demand to effects bargaining over the shutdown of the facilities.
As we get more information and dates for the bargaining set, we will pass the information on through this venue.
