Progress made on language; wages still a major issue

Your union negotiating committee met with representatives from Republic Steel every day this week. Offers and counteroffers were exchanged, and we were able to agree on some language changes that would benefit every Union employee that works at Republic Steel.

However, the core issue of greatest concern, wages, has so far proven to be a major sticking point. Your Negotiating Committee made several good-faith offers that would have secured our interests and allowed Republic Steel to remain a profitable business.

Your Negotiating Committee remains open to meaningful bargaining and will be available to do so. However, it must be acknowledged that scheduling concerns may delay negotiations for a few weeks, but that is Republic Steel's fault. We started this process in June, and it was the Company who dragged their feet, cried and complained, acted unprofessional, and generally made very little effort to reach common ground and fashion an acceptable labor agreement.

FAIR CONTRACT, IT’S TIME!
