The United Steelworkers represents the most workers in the North American chemical industry. The chemical sector is one of the largest sectors within the international union with approximately 30,000 chemical workers being represented. The union’s chemical units include traditional chemical plants, petrochemical units and chemical end products manufacturing.

The USW Solvay Council met in person for the first time since 2019 at USW Headquarters on April 4-5 to plan for the future as the company plans to split into two independent businesses at the end of the year.
The two-day conference was held at USW Headquarters on March 28-29 and was led by USW Secretary-Treasurer John Shinn, who kickstarted the meeting by thanking the members for their steadfast commitment over the past few demanding years.
