Local 9460 rallies for safe staffing outside St. Mary’s in Minnesota

Members of Local 9460 rallied outside St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minn., on Friday, July 21, as they remain in tough bargaining with Essentia Health.

The local represents approximately 700 workers across the hospital system, including radiology and imaging, behavioral health, surgery, laboratory, respiratory, pharmacy and more.

The unit’s contract with Essentia expired on July 1, and both sides agreed to a rolling 14-day extension of the labor agreement.

The demonstration centered on concerns over staffing levels and flexibility language that workers feel may compromise the safety of patients and staff.

They were also joined by allies, including the Minnesota Nurses Association, the North East Area Labor Council, USW members from Bobcat in North Dakota, and many more.
