homerLabor lost a great fighter and friend with the death of former District 9 Director Homer Wilson after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  

Homer joined Steelworkers Local 4801 in 1952 when he went to work at the Continental Can plant in Auburndale, FL. He was active for 20 years in the local as a Griever and Grievance Chair before serving as Local Union President for 10 years.

Wilson was appointed Staff Representative and later served as Sub District Director of the former District 36 until 1995, when District 36 was incorporated into District 9.  He was later appointed Director of District 9 in May 1996 upon the retirement of Director Joe Kiker and subsequently elected to full terms in 1997 and 2001.

He is survived by his wife Dinah; sons Johnny, Houston and James Barks; daughters Susan Wilson and Linda Dunn-Soshee.

Visitation is Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 1-4pm at Blount County Funeral Home/Cleveland Funeral Home, 17885 State Hwy 160, Cleveland, AL 35049, 205-625-6005.

Burial will take place Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 11:00am at the Oak Hill Burial Park, 4620 US Hwy 98 South in Lakeland, FL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the USW District 9 Education - Homer Wilson Scholarship, P.O. Box 1105, Gardendale, AL 35701.
