ArcelorMittal Contract Talks Underway in Pittsburgh

This week in Pittsburgh, our USW negotiating committee met both internally and with ArcelorMittal management.

Although the company has not produced the “comprehensive” proposal we expected, management gave a presentation on Monday that covered health and safety, followed by a discussion of issues that impact the steel industry.

We have also formed subcommittees to engage management on a number of topics and continued local issue discussions.

On Thursday, we received the first of a planned series of presentations from the company about health care options for Medicare eligible retirees.

Our local leaders are heading home for the weekend, and talks will resume next week.

The negotiating committee appreciates the tremendous show of visible support on our first Sticker Day earlier this week.

Our unity and solidarity in the coming weeks is absolutely essential if we hope to achieve the fair contract we deserve.

Keep an eye out for more updates and information as the process continues, and be sure to attend all your regularly scheduled union meetings.
