Negotiations with ASARCO Resume, Showing Signs of Progress

The unions and ASARCO met on October 17 and 18, 2023, as scheduled in Mesa, Ariz., to continue negotiations for a new Basic Labor Agreement (BLA).

The parties made progress on important language issues this week, achieving several tentative agreements.

Remedying years of wage stagnation at ASARCO is the union negotiating committee’s top objective.

While ASARCO rejected our proposal for immediate wage increases in September, members of the union bargaining committee remain committed to achieving significant economic gains as part of any acceptable new BLA.

Protecting our seniority rights, grievance and arbitration procedures, and protecting job security are also critical elements of a BLA that help deliver justice and dignity for workers. On those issues we made progress this week.

We are scheduled to resume negotiations with management the week of November 13, 2023.

With your solidarity and support, we are confident that our progress will continue toward and a fair, enforceable BLA with ASARCO.

In the meantime, we will work with the NLRB to continue holding ASARCO accountable as our unfair labor practice case works its way through the legal system and provide updates throughout the process.

Stay safe and stay united!
