Membership Update: June 30, 2022

The USW bargaining committees have continued negotiating with Goodyear since our last update.  We are disappointed to report that we are frustrated by the lack of progress to this point. This is due to a lack of proposals put forth by Goodyear that address a number of issues that we have brought to the table on behalf of the membership.

Alarmingly, Goodyear continues to propose changes to health insurance and premiums that would cost us tens of millions of dollars. If Goodyear had its way, its proposals would cost everyone $4.25 an hour

These unacceptable proposals come at a time when the company has been very successful financially.  Last year, Goodyear Americas posted an Operating Profit of $914 million – a 66 percent increase over 2019!.  This performance continued in the first quarter (January - March) of 2022. Goodyear Americas posted an Operating Profit of $216 million – a 90 percent increase over the first quarter of 2021.

Your bargaining committees will continue negotiations until the expiration on July 29.  We sincerely hope that Goodyear is prepared to make a sincere effort to reach a deal.

Over the next few weeks there will be more opportunities for you to show Goodyear just how serious we are about negotiating an agreement that addresses our needs. We encourage all of you to participate and show management our solidarity around our contract goals – and that their outrageous proposals will never be acceptable.

We will continue to keep the membership updated as negotiations continue.

Unity – Determination – Solidarity
