Bargaining with Goodyear to Continue

Your Goodyear negotiating committee has determined that we have made enough progress that it makes sense to keep management engaged in bargaining with a 24-hour, rolling extension that will enable us to bargain a fair contract.

With more than a billion dollars in available cash and after reporting $900 million in profits last year, Goodyear management has no excuses for demanding concessions and insisting that loyal, experienced union workers accept less than what we have earned and deserve.

Goodyear must get the message that it cannot force USW members to accept givebacks that will negatively impact our standard of living.

We have been flexible with the company and came to these negotiations prepared to negotiate a responsible settlement, but Goodyear management has failed to recognize the hard work and sacrifice that USW members contribute to the bottom line.

The value of our labor truly has increased with inflation and dynamic changes taking place in the market for our products.

For the next few days, we will stay engaged with management in an effort to resolve the outstanding issues and reach a tentative agreement. We will keep you updated as we progress and assess our position in the coming days.

Please remain on the job doing the excellent work you always do until further notice -- remain focused on performing your job in a safe manner!
