The U.S. paper industry continues to restructure itself through mergers, acquisitions, downsizing and shutdowns. It also faces the threat of unfairly traded and dumped paper imports from overseas. Electronic communication has threatened its existence as well. Despite these challenges, USW paperworkers persevere through their solidarity and the building of a coordinated bargaining program that has given them improved wages, benefits and working conditions despite the economy and pressures on the industry.
