Some Progress in Sub-Committees, Major Issues Remain

This week our bargaining committee returned to Pittsburgh and continued working toward our goal: a fair contract!

All of our sub-committees (Health & Safety, Benefits, Contract Language, Contracting Out, Training, Office & Technical and Fire & Security) met throughout the week.

Sub-committees are made up of local union leaders, USW Staff Representatives and USW technical experts who develop and refine our proposals based on feedback from the membership, grievances and issues we’ve dealt with over the past few years and recognition of the work and sacrifices you make every day.

They are actively meeting with representatives from USS who bring the company’s proposals forward.

Through discussion on proposals from both sides, we try to reach agreement on key issues.

Many of the sub-committees report some progress. While this is a positive development, most major issues are still being discussed and we have a lot of work ahead of us.

Most local unions have completed local bargaining, though a few open issues remain. We’ve had several meetings this week to try to resolve these, and hope to wrap them up soon.

Your sticker actions this week were a great show of support for our bargaining committee. Look out for updates from a CAT member about upcoming solidarity activities!
