With multiple USW employers cutting production and laying off workers due to growing uncertainty in the global market for steel as both direct and indirect results of COVID-19, ATI has withdrawn it’s latest offer for a contract and replaced it with an offer to extend the current contact for one year with a new expiration of February 28, 2021.

The USW International Union has agreed to the extension and as a result, ATI will make a $500 lump sum payment to each employee who was accuring seniority on March 1st of this year.

Obviously, we are not satisfied with what seems to be a temporary solution to the issue of negotiating fair new labor agreements, but at the same time, the security and protection our contracts provide are worth a lot to our members and families.

Each ATI Steelworker will receive a $500 lump sum bonus payment for the pay period ending April 17, 2020.

It is impossible to predict what the future holds, but certainly, we can expect to bargain from a position of greater strength after the global COVID-19 pandemic passes.

In the meantime, we need to continue building solidarity within and between our local unions and monitor the actions of management carefully. Although we obviously will start again in January of next year, our determination to bargain a fair and equitable contract will not change.

SOLIDARITY IS OUR STRENGTH
