Lee Astle of USW Local 993 was recently appointed as the new District 10 Coordinator for the USW Health Care Workers Council. Astle has worked in the health care sector for nearly thirty years and currently works as an order completion technician for Express Scripts in North Huntingdon. He also works part-time as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

His hustle doesn’t stop there. Astle, a four-year graduate of the USW Leadership-Scholarship program, also serves as his local’s recording secretary and as a steward, and volunteers with the union’s Emergency Response Team (ERT). The team members aid victims and their families in the wake of catastrophic workplace accidents.

Helping others drives all that Astle does, including taking part in union activism. “I’m from a union family,” he said. “It’s in our blood.”

Astle is excited for what is to come with his new coordinator position and what good he can help bring to the table for his fellow workers. “Health care always needed a voice,” he said.

When Astle isn’t pounding the pavement on behalf of union members, he enjoys spending time with his nieces and dog-sitting their English Lab named Jack.
