Bobby "Mac" McAuliffe

Director District 10

Bob McAuliffe joined the USW International staff in 1997 as a technician in the Membership Development department. He was elected Director of District 10, which encompasses Pennsylvania, in 2013.

McAuliffe has been a devoted union activist throughout his career. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, which included three tours of duty overseas, he worked in a family-owned business for two and a half years. In 1978, he joined
National Material Corp. in Arnold, Pa., and became involved with his local union right away. He was elected local vice president within a year, and became president two months later when his predecessor left for another job.

McAuliffe served six terms as president of one of the largest amalgamated locals in the former District 19. He also served as safety and health committee chair, chairman of the bargaining committee, area legislative committee chair and on the state legislative committee.

During his tenure as local president, he worked for the USW on a casual basis on politics, safety and health and education. From 1988 to 1994, McAuliffe also worked part time as an associate instructor at the Center for Worker Health and Safety Education in Cincinnati, teaching union members how to work safely with hazardous materials.

McAuliffe assisted in the development of the Rapid Response program and helped plan and implement the union’s organizing program for members in right-to-work states.

Since 2008, McAuliffe has been the Rapid Response coordinator for District 10 and has coordinated the District 10 political program for the past several presidential elections.

The headquarters for District 10 is in North Versailles, Pa.
