Follow Up to New Hire Union Membership Article

We received some inquiries on the Right to Union Membership article included in last week’s Monday Morning Minutes. To clarify, dues deductions are not contractual. You do not need to specifically have language that specifically addresses dues or new hires to have the right to deduct dues for new hires. Federal law under the NLRA allows unions and employers to enter into "union-security" agreements which require all employees in a bargaining unit to become union members and begin paying union dues and fees within 30 days of being hired.

Industry Update

Neenah Paper Changes Name

Neenah Paper, Inc. announced that, effective on January 1, 2018, the company will change its name to Neenah, Inc. The Company's ticker symbol on the New York Stock Exchange will remain "NP" and names of subsidiaries will not be affected. "As we've continued to successfully execute our strategy to increase our presence in growing and profitable specialty niche markets, the last name of "paper" does not sufficiently reflect the diversity of our current and future company," said John O'Donnell, Chief Executive Officer. "The Neenah name, however, will continue to represent a product portfolio known for high performance and premium quality, as well as a company appreciated for its disciplined capital allocation and commitment to providing attractive returns to investors."
