Local President honored for 45 years of union service

Ron Johnson retires

Congratulations to Ron Johnson, President of USW Local 47 - Ardagh in Wilson, N.C., who retired February 1 after 45 years as a union activist and leader. Brother Ron worked for six different glass container plants in California before transferring to the Wilson, N.C. in 2007 as a mold maker. He was a member of the Flint Glass Workers until their merger with the USW.

He served as the Local 47 President for two terms and also served as Vice President before that. He and his wife Doretha plan to travel and stay active. They will consider moving back to California to be closer to family.

About 50 of Ron's friends and family held a surprise retirement party, where he was presented a 45-year USW pin by staff representative Kenn Nettles.
