The celebration will kick off on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, with the free-to-the-public MLK Labor Economic Policy and Advocacy Summit tenatively scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the AFL-CIO headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The MLK holiday weekend presents an opportunity for union members, constituency groups and partners who are looking for a space to discuss the most important economic policy issues that lie at the intersection of race and class.

There also will be community service activities, a worship service at the New Bethel Baptist Church, and an awards banquet honoring Empire star actor Jussie Smollett; USW International Vice President Fred Redmond; UFCW President Marc Perrone; U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and others.
