Keeping it Made in America at USW Local 12L

Parents shopping for back to school supplies are faced with many choices when it comes to whether their children’s materials are made in the USA or imported from a foreign country. USW Local 12L in Gadsden, AL saw an opportunity to promote American manufacturing while providing a valuable resource to their membership.

Local 12L school supplies for membership

Local 12L made available to their members, with school age children, prepared goodie bags filled with American made products, including: pencils, rulers, composition books, filler paper and crayons. If every person took such an initiative, spending an extra $3.33 on U.S.A-made products per year, it would generate nearly 10,000 new jobs in the U.S.

District 9 Director Daniel Flippo praised the Local’s action saying, “Local 12L demonstrated the Steelworker spirit by promoting and aiding its members with made in the U.S.A school supplies. Thank you to the Officers and membership for helping the economy by supporting the Made in America initiative and helping to quell the further offshoring of jobs.”
