Election 2016: Members Speak Out

Andy Meserve
Loal 9423

Andy Meserve, 40, Owensboro, Ky., a member of the USW for 13 years, he has been president of USW Local 9423 for the past year, and served as vice president for two years before that. He works for Century Aluminum.

“Hillary Clinton has been an advocate for minorities, for people with disabilities, and for people without a voice for her entire life. That is what I do as a labor union officer. I try to make sure people are represented fairly and the rules of the labor agreement are enforced fairly.

“Also, Hillary has the most experience for the job. She knows how to apply pressure so we can get trade deals that are more fair and she can even the playing field for American workers. That is crucial to me because aluminum has been so horribly affected by the influx of foreign metal. My plant is operating at only 40 percent capacity, people are laid off, good jobs have been lost and the community has been hurt.”
