Coalition Of Black Trade Unionists Hosts Panel On Race, Gender In Presidential Politics

PITTSBURGH  -  When electing the President of the United States, has America today moved beyond stereotypes, and become a nation ready to select a candidate based on the content of their character and political positions?

This question is the subject of a special panel discussion by representatives of competing candidates on Friday, April 18, 5-7 p.m., at the United Steelworkers (USW) International Headquarters, Lobby Conference room,  Five Gateway Center, 60 Blvd. of the Allies, Pittsburgh, Pa.

Representatives of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU), which is hosting the discussion, said community residents and working people are invited to come to this nonpartisan event on the impact of race, age and gender on electoral decisions. Pledged delegates for the McCain, Clinton and Obama campaigns have all been invited to participate in panel discussions for this event, though McCain representatives subsequently indicated that they will not be able to attend. 

“We feel this discussion on the evolution of the American electorate is timely, and will be enlightening and informative,” said CBTU Pittsburgh Chapter President Ron King.

People who come to this event can meet the panelists and hosts between 5-6 p.m., with the panel discussion taking place between 6-7 p.m. There will be a question and answer period afterwards and refreshments will be served.

USW International Vice President Fred Redmond will be a special guest at this event.
