Since the height of the steel industry in 1953, the number of steelworkers fell astonishingly. According to the America Public Transportation Associations, for every 1 billion dollars spent in domestic infrastructure, 47,500 new jobs are created. The Pennsylvania Project estimates costs at upwards of 3.7 billion dollars (2003 dollars) over a five-year expanse. This equates to 35,150 jobs per year over the five-year period.

“The deployment of high-speed maglev would create a new metal working industry for America, creating tens of thousands family-wage manufacturing jobs, as well as, significantly increasing demands in traditional steel making facilities,” said Andrew V. Palm, former USW International Vice President.

The Pennsylvania Project is a demonstration of maglev connecting the U.S. via high-speed ground transportation. Upon completion of this initial section, deployment to other U.S. markets is anticipated. At least 70% of the project must be made in the United States and it is estimated that any further projects, undertaken by Maglev Inc., will be produced with 100% domestic steel. As a result, jobs will be maintained for years to come as maglev transportation expands throughout the United States.
