U.S. Election Update

As those of you who live in Ohio and Texas know, the officers and respective district directors recently sent out a letter to our members in those states not suggesting how they should vote in tomorrow’s primaries, but instead giving our view on where both the Democratic and Republican Presidential candidates stand on issues that are important to workers, including workers’ right to unionize, health care and trade. Our lopsided trading relationships with China and other countries with little or no worker or environmental protections is a particularly critical problem that needs to be more directly addressed by all of the candidates, particularly when you consider that just in Ohio alone, we have lost 236,000 manufacturing jobs in recent years due to unfair trade. As we go through the election process, we urge all of our members to listen carefully to what the candidates say on trade, and especially on trade with China, and on the exploitation of workers around the globe.
