Manufacturing Alliance Asks Candidates: “Will You Care?”
Labor-Management Partnership Seeks Commitment to Combat Unfair Trade

PITTSBURGH - The United Steelworkers (USW) today heralded an advertising campaign in Ohio sponsored by the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) that asks presidential hopefuls if they will take steps to curb manufacturing job losses in the state caused by unfair trade.
“Any candidate who seeks the support of our members must demonstrate their commitment to protecting our jobs, our families and our communities,” said USW International President Leo. W. Gerard. “The AAM asked the question, and American workers deserve an answer.”
The full-page newspaper ads single-out China as an example for cheating our trade agreements and subverting American trade laws by illegally dumping its subsidized manufactured goods in this country.
“Ohio workers in particular have paid a terrible price for our country’s disastrous trade policies with over 240,000 manufacturing jobs lost to unfair and illegal trade,” said USW District 1 Director David McCall. “Over 66,000 of those jobs were shipped directly to China.”
The ads are scheduled to run on Sunday and Monday in Cleveland’s Plain Dealer, the Columbus Dispatch and the Youngstown Vindicator.
“Our goal is to get all the candidates running for president on record, prior to Tuesday, to commit to passing legislation and providing executive leadership to stop China’s dumping, subsidies and other illegal trade practices that harm American workers and manufacturers,” said AAM Executive Director Scott Paul.
