“Look Them In The Eye And Answer Their Hard Questions”

In the midst of a four-day tour of Iowa, Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards spoke to a crowd of over 200 well-wishers, which included USW members from Local Union 105.

The former North Carolina senator told his audience, "I think it's much more important to Iowa caucus-goers to see you in the flesh — see you stand before them, look them in the eye and answer their hard questions."

Speaking through a bullhorn from the back of a large silver pickup truck in the unseasonable heat, the candidate gained a chuckle when he told the group, "It's not supposed to be this hot in Iowa this time of year," and a woman replied, “Global warming.”

Mr. Edwards touched on environmental issues, but also included the Iraq war, health care and the loss of jobs in the United States to workers in other countries.

This was one of seventeen stops he planned to make in the state in four days.
