Looking forward to smooth sailing

In September 2007, Connie Entrekin was appointed SOAR President by USW International President Leo W. Gerard. Connie will serve the remaining term of President Lynn Williams, who has been appointed SOAR President Emeritus.

Prior to his retirement from active employment, Connie served on International Executive Board of the United Steelworkers as Director of District 9.

Before becoming a director, Connie held a number of positions in the labor movement, including president at Local 4382 in Gadsden, Alabama, beginning in 1959. He was elected president of the Gadsden Labor Council in 1970, and executive vice president and COPE director for the Alabama AFL-CIO in 1973.

In 1977, Connie was appointed to the Steelworkers staff, servicing the Gulf Coast Region. He served as director of legislative and PAC activities for the former District 36 before being appointed assistant to the Director of District 9 in 1996.

As District Director, Connie chaired negotiations for Rexam Can North America and Ball Container, was secretary of negotiations for Crown, Cork and Seal, and served as a member of the Steelworker’s International Appeals Committee.
