Working families and communities throughout the U.S. have been devastated by the demise of manufacturing. To keep America strong, the U.S. must develop a public policy strategy to renew a manufacturing base that creates good paying jobs for workers and a solid tax base for communities.
In early July, the United Steelworkers (USW) hosted a Presidential Candidates’ forum to hear what candidates would do to revive American manufacturing. The USW Political Department also held a session to discuss political activism in our union with over 1,000 members from across the U.S. who attended the forum.
In attendance were USW International president Leo W. Gerard, presidential candidates Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Dennis Kucinich. Other elected officials who attended included Congresswomen Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, Betty Sutton, and Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson.
