Sierra Club, Steelworkers Launch Barnstorming Tour
“Road to Energy Independence Tour” Brings Clean Energy, Jobs Message to Industrial Heartland Ahead of Crucial Election

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The heads of the Sierra Club and the United Steelworkers are bringing their message of clean energy, green manufacturing, jobs creation and economic revitalization to the industrial heartland ahead of the crucial 2006 mid-term election. Carl Pope, Sierra Club executive director, and Leo Gerard, United Steelworkers president, will be barnstorming across Minnesota, Ohio and Pennsylvania on “The Road to Energy Independence Tour,” taking place November 1-3.
“It is critical that our leaders adopt responsible, forward-thinking policies that embrace clean renewable energy, fight global warming, and help us end our dangerous dependence on oil,” said Pope. “As Election Day nears, I can think of no more important task than letting the public know which elected officials and candidates are working hard to give Americans a clean, safe and secure energy future.
