USW President Honors Local Union Editors

PITTSBURGH, PA — United Steelworkers (USW) president Leo W. Gerard presented twenty-two awards to local union editors and webmasters at the United Steelworkers Press Association (USPA) Biennial Awards banquet here recently.

 

Most notable of these were the Raymond W. Pasnick awards for editorial excellence presented in three different circulation categories. The award for circulation under 1,000 was presented to USW Local 1023 from Salem, Va.; for circulation between 1,000 and 2,000 went to USW Local 746L from Tyler, Tex.; and, for circulation over 2,000 the award went to USW Local 1123 out of Canton, Ohio.

 

“The issues facing working class people in North America are continually growing. This includes health care, pensions and upcoming legislation such as the Employee Free Choice Act in the U.S.” said USW President Leo W. Gerard. “We need to provide union communicators with the tools and information to promote awareness and activism in or
