USW Airs Radio Message During Hightower Commentaries

The United Steelworkers (USW) launched a three-week run of radio messages on May 15, urging stronger protections for employees to exercise free choice in voting for union representation.  The messages will run on Air America stations in conjunction with commentaries by populist activist Jim Hightower.

The message raises the question, if everything’s going as great as Wall Street says, why are so many families faced with economic insecurity?  The answer, the USW suggests, is that union influence has been diminished by weak labor laws that allow employers to intimidate and fire workers who want to for a union.

The message concludes with a call to “restore a worker’s freedom to choose a union without fear of being fired – the way democracy’s supposed to work.”

Here is a link to the 60-second message and to a list of stations on which it is being aired.
