The Pharmaceutical Industry

About 15,000 USW members work in many segments of the pharmaceutical industry, including some of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturers (such as Pfizer, Merck, Bayer, and Mylan Labs) and mail-order (Medco) and retail pharmacies (Krogers).

With over 5,500 members, Medco is the largest USW employer in the pharmaceutical industry.  A council of USW local unions at Medco was formed for members to share information and support each other’s activities.  For more information on the Medco Council, please click here.

At a conference of USW pharmaceutical local union representatives held in Pittsburgh in August 2005, the idea was raised to improve communications among pharmacists across all of our employers.  On September 2, 2005, the USW announced the formation of a joint Pharmacists Council with the National Pharmacists Association.  For more information on the Pharmacists Council, please click here.

For more information on the pharmaceutical industry, check out the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) web site or the Pharmaceutical Industry Association of Puerto Rico web site.
