United Steelworkers Press Association

The United Steelworkers Press Association (USPA) is a United Steelworker (USW) organization of local union newsletter editors, web masters and communicators dedicated to improving the union’s ability to get its message to the members and the public. We are free service to local unions - staffed by the Steelworkers Communications Department and have an elected board of directors, consisting of rank-and-file representatives from each district of the union.

The USPA assists local unions in establishing new publications and setting up Web sites. We provide regular mailings with hints and tips to improve their method of communications. The USPA Infonet was established as a downloadable Web site to enable union communicators to obtain information, photos, graphics, etc. for leaflets, newsletters and Web sites.

We conduct various training programs throughout North America for new communicators. The Getting Started Course offers the basic training for editors. The Basic Media Relations course enhances local communicators for dealing with the media and getting your message out to the public. The Communication Scholarship Program offers advanced training to communicators who need to upgrade their skills.

The USPA Biennial Conference allows USW communicators to share their ideas, participate in training and submit local union publications or web sites for awards.

There is no cost to affiliate with the USPA but a registration form must be filled out.

Our goal is simple: to help any local develop communications for their members.

The USPA is a free service for all locals to use, whether you are an editor, a webmaster or an activist with civil rights, women of steel or rapid response.
