USW Study Warns Public about Dangers of Hydrofluoric Acid Use in Refinery Alkylation Process to Produce Clean-Burning Gasoline
A United Steelworkers (USW) study released today-"A Risk Too Great, Hydrofluoric Acid in U.S. Refineries"-warns that refiners that use hydrofluoric acid (HF) in their alkylation process to make clean-burning gasoline do not have adequate safety systems in place and are not prepared to handle a release.

USW Representative Appointed to OSHA Whistleblower Committee
The United Steelworkers today lauded the appointment of Nancy Lessin, a longtime activist on behalf of worker health and safety, to a seat on the 12-member federal Whistleblower Protection Advisory Committee (WPAC). Lessin was appointed by U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis.
