To: All USW Local Union Public Employee Presidents and Recording Secretaries

Greetings:

Slashing public services and public jobs is a top priority of newly elected GOP.  Nine states have cut public employee benefits.  Twelve states have cut public employee salaries.  Twenty-two have furloughed them.  Twenty-six states have laid-off public employees and 28 have made public employee cuts across the board.

We are proud to announce that our 2011 Public Employee Conference will be held on Monday, May 16th through Thursday, May 19th at the Wyndham Grand Hotel Pittsburgh Downtown, 600 Commonwealth Place, Pittsburgh PA 15222-1003.

Chaired by USW International Vice President Fred Redmond, this conference will focus on
“ACTION”.  Specifically, we will zero in on the attack and the best, most effective fight-back strategies.

The conference action agenda includes plenaries and workshops focused on:

  • The fight to Save Our Jobs and Services in state legislatures
  • Strategies for Bargaining in Bad Times
  • Public Campaigns to Counter the Lies Told About Public Service Workers
  • Public Support for Public Services and the People Who Do Them

All USW Local Unions with public employee members are invited to send as many representatives as possible.  We encourage local unions to send members who work in the public sector.
