District 9 Director
Daniel Flippo was elected by acclamation in November of 2009 as Director of District 9. He served as Assistant to the Director of the District until May of 2009 when he was approved by the International Executive Board to succeed Stan Johnson, who had been named International Secretary-Treasurer.
A native of Amory, Miss., Flippo began his career in 1980 as a production worker for Conoco Chemicals, now Georgia Gulf Chemicals, in Aberdeen, Miss.
Daniel joined Local 15198 and quickly became a union activist. He took on a variety of assignments including steward and grievance chairman before he was elected president of the local in 1986. He served three terms.
After completing training at the AFL-CIO’s Organizing Institute, Flippo worked as a local union activist in organizing throughout District 36, the predecessor to District 9. He worked within Districts 36 and later District 9 from 1989 until 1996, when he became a staff representative for the International union.
While a staff representative for Mississippi and Alabama, Flippo played a significant role in establishing the Mississippi Labor Management Conference and served on the conference board of directors.
As a Sub-district Director for Florida and Georgia, Flippo was instrumental in integrating staff assignments following the 2005 merger of USWA with PACE.
Prior to becoming Director, Flippo was named Assistant Director in 2007 and served as District 9 PAC coordinator, first contract coordinator and education coordinator. Flippo serves as council chairman for Evergreen Packaging (formerly Blue Ridge Paper), BASF Chemical and Honeywell.
Flippo was raised in a union household, the son of a Teamster truck driver, attended Amory High School, Itawamba Community College and the Trade Union Program at Harvard University.
