(Eveleth, Minn.) – The United Steelworkers (USW) District 11 today announced its endorsement of Julie Sandstede to represent District 6A in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

District 6A includes portions of the Iron Range in northeastern Minnesota.

“Julie has been involved in the labor movement on the Iron Range for years,” said Lowell Carlon, president of USW Local 1938 at U.S. Steel’s Minntac iron ore operations. “She has participated in our events supporting American-made steel and supports our efforts for fair contracts at all of our mines.”

Cliff Tobey, president of USW local 2660 at U.S. Steel’s Keetac iron ore operations, said Sandstede was ready to stand up for working families.

“It’s nice to know that we endorsed someone who knows our issues at Keetac and will be ready to go once elected,” Tobey said.

Sandstede is running to replace Rep. Carly Melin, who declined to run for re-election.

“There wasn’t a single dissenting vote against Julie, and we are proud to endorse her,” said Stacy Spexet, who chairs the USW District 11 Presidents’ Council.

USW District 11 represents thousands of workers in Minnesota as well as Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.
