WASHINGTON, D.C. (Aug. 11) – Leo W. Gerard, International President of the United Steelworkers (USW), responded to today’s China currency devaluation action with the following statement:

"China's action to manipulate their currency makes clear that this not only has to be a key issue for the upcoming U.S.-China summit, but for effective and enforceable disciplines missing in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).  American workers see this as a jobs security issue and can't afford our government's continuing inaction on this issue."

The USW represents 850,000 workers in North America employed in many industries that include metals, rubber, chemicals, paper, oil refining and the service and public sectors.  For more information: http://www.usw.org/.
