WASHINGTON, D.C. – Members of Congress will be speaking with labor and environmental leaders at an outdoor stage in the Upper Senate Park of Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Apr. 15 at 11:00 am in a call to action Lobby Day for 600 local union activists of the United Steelworkers (USW) from across the nation and hundreds of others participating in opposition to the proposed ‘Fast Track’ bill, or Trade Promotion Authority (TPA).

Leo W. Gerard, USW President, said: “The voices of workers will be in the halls of Congress and at our rally to declare U.S. trade deals have been nothing more than broken promises of lost jobs and closed factories that are wiping out middle class American families.”

He adds that the fast track trade approval bill likely to be introduced soon weakens the duty of Congress to represent Americans by properly reviewing and amending proposed trade agreements on provisions affecting every aspect of daily life, including environmental policy, labor rights, food safety, and the rights of foreign investors.
