Application for Special Health and Safety Course for USW Full-Time Health and Safety Representatives, to be held Sept. 9-11, 2015 in Pittsburgh

USW HSEThe USW Health, Safety and Environment department and Tony Mazzocchi Center will once again present a three-day course specifically for USW full-time health and safety representatives, and USW full-time health and safety committee chairs. The class will be presented Sept. 9-11, 2015 at the USW's International Headquarters located at: 60 Blvd of the Allies, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. This course is for USW full-time health and safety reps, full-time health and safety committee chairs, and others from the USW who spend full-time on health and safety activities (USW members who have been appointed, elected or selected to work on health and safety issues full-time).

The course will incorporate current issues, problem-solving and strategic planning aimed at helping full-time USW health and safety reps meet current and future challenges. It is designed to assist full-time health and safety reps, and have participants assist each other – whether you are new to this job, or have many years' experience – in your day-to-day work aimed at eliminating, reducing and preventing hazards; creating safer, healthier workplaces; increasing member involvement in the union’s health and safety efforts; and building stronger unions.

There are approximately 20 slots for this course. Applicants will need approval from your District Director to apply. Please work through your local union leadership and your Staff Representative to obtain this approval.

There is no registration fee for the three-day course, but local unions will need to make arrangements to cover travel, lodging and related expenses for those attending the program.

If you are interested in applying to be a participant in this program, please obtain approval from your District Director and send an email to Nancy Lessin at nlessin@uswtmc.org, with a cc to Connie Brown at cbrown@usw.org, and include the following information:
