PITTSBURGH, June 4, 2014 -- The United Steelworkers (USW) today filed unfair labor practice charges against Western Cab Co. with Region 28 of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on behalf of over 300 drivers who have been working without a contract for nearly two years since they first unionized.

Specifically, the union alleges that within the past six months, management of Western Cab, through actions by its officers, agents or other representatives, has engaged in bad-faith bargaining with the union.

"Drivers at Western Cab are proud to serve the Las Vegas community, its residents and visitors," said USW District 12 Director Bob LaVenture, "and the company needs to treat them with the respect and dignity they've earned through years of hard work and personal sacrifice."

LaVenture pointed out that drivers at Western Cab are not seeking exorbitant wage or benefit increases, but are simply looking for a contract that puts them on par with other major taxi operators in the Las Vegas area.

"Instead of dragging the negotiating process out even longer than it has, we hope management at Western Cab will live up to its responsibility to bargain in good faith with our union for a fair contract," LaVenture said.

The USW represents 850,000 men and women employed in metals, mining, pulp and paper, rubber, chemicals, glass, auto supply and the energy-producing industries, along with a growing number of workers in public sector and service occupations.
