What American Workers Really Need

International President Leo W. Gerard and progressive talk show host Leslie Marshall last week discussed the eight things American workers really need if they’re going to have a happy holiday season and prosper throughout the year.

These “gifts” range from genuinely affordable health care and education, to occupational health and safety regulations that actually prioritize workers’ safety, to a reasonable minimum wage that truly enables working people to live and thrive.

“There are tens of millions of workers who work through the holidays and many millions who don’t get to work through the holidays because they still don’t have a job or they don’t have a job that pays enough,” said Gerard.

These are the people, Gerard said, who need more than platitudes and promises; they need legislation on wages, safety, infrastructure and more that puts working people first 365 days a year.
