(January 29) – Our USW negotiating committee returned to the bargaining table this week with Cliffs Natural Resources. We held a series of meetings with the company where we discussed both local issues and top-table issues, most notably active and retiree health care.

We were able to come to agreement on a number of local issues, and we have been making progress pushing back against many of the company’s concessionary demands on our health care costs.

We are committed to continuing these talks until we have achieved an agreement that is fair to both sides. We will continue to keep the lines of communication open with the company and are scheduled to return to the bargaining table in late February.

We know that this is a difficult time for our industry, and we know that many members are growing restless with the slow pace of these negotiations. It is your solidarity that will make the difference in these negotiations. We ask you to continue to stand with us, keep in touch with your local officers and CAT coordinators, and keep working safely. We will keep everyone informed as talks continue.
