In today’s society, where the working class income is shrinking considerably every day, our unions are under attack more than ever. The USW Political Action Committee is a voluntary program that allows our union’s member to have a voice in local and federal politics.

Because of this extremely useful program, we believe that it is our responsibility to keep that voice alive and thriving by donating to PAC what we can.

Together we can assure that generations to come can have a voice in our democracy, and that our elected officials will know the importance of unions in fighting for a better life for our children.

When we took part in the Steelworkers’ Summer Institute we had no knowledge of the USW Political Action Committee or that it even existed. Through talking to some of our fellow union sisters and brothers, and representatives from our union, we learned that PAC really helps our union fight back. After seeing and hearing the testimonials of West Virginia local unions we discovered that PAC is our way to fight for the future of our union by having a voice in our political process.

As members of a local union in Kentucky, we believe the small donations we make to the union’s PAC could be what stops so-called “Right to Work” legislation and other attacks on workers and our families. If enough members see the importance of PAC and chose to contribute, then our union will almost certainly be stronger for all of us.

Hopefully we can take what we’ve learned about PAC and bring it back to our locals in western Kentucky in an attempt to secure jobs in these difficult economic times for working folks.
