The sign says it all as “Wives of Stillwater Miners” hold information pickets in front of company offices downtown in Columbus, MO. The 900 United Steelworker miners of Local 11-1 have been in negotiations since March. Their contract with Stillwater’s Nye mine and Columbus processing facility expires at the end of May.
The wives said the sign waving is bringing a lot of attention and community support from passing motorists honking horns and passerby’s walking by is growing.
Union members are upset that the company has proposed a pay cut as the company announced a $23 million profit for the first quarter of 2015 and a substantial salary raise was received by CEO Mick McMullen in 2014.
