Washington May Not Work, but the Government Does—Thanks to Workers

Federal, state, county and local public employees are, says President Barack Obama in a proclamation honoring Public Service Recognition Week, “scientists and teachers, social workers and first responders—they are the leaders of today's progress and the innovators of tomorrow's breakthroughs.“

This week is the 30th annual Public Service Recognition Week, and it spotlights the men and women who do make government work, sometimes, says Obama:

Under tough circumstances—including pay freezes, budget cuts, sequestration and a political climate that too often does not sufficiently value their work—these exceptional leaders continue to make real the fundamental truth that people who love their country can change it ... more
