(August 31) – Our U.S. Steel bargaining committee is continuing to meet both internally and with company management this week in Pittsburgh. Although major differences remain on economic and non-economic issues, we continue to work hard and push forward toward a fair agreement.

On Monday, the USW extended an offer to the company to keep working under the terms of the existing labor agreement while the two sides continue to negotiate. We believe that this course of action is in the best interests of USW members. It allows us to continue to pursue a settlement that preserves the decades of progress we have made at the bargaining table, while positioning the company for future success.

Continue Working - Safely

Also, as long as we continue to be engaged with management, we ask all USW members to continue to report to work as scheduled. And please remember - above all – that we must stay focused on working safely and looking out for the safety of our coworkers. Please review and adhere to the safety procedures established in your area and speak up if you have concerns.

Join Our Rallies Tomorrow!

Meanwhile, we are mobilizing for major rallies tomorrow afternoon at U.S. Steel and ATI offices in Pittsburgh and ArcelorMittal offices in Burns Harbor and Chicago. We hope everyone who can participate will attend. For more information, talk to your CAT coordinator or visit www.usw.org/steel.

We must continue to send the message to management at all three of these companies that we are committed to negotiating fair contracts throughout the industry and will not allow them to use the current market as an excuse to gut our contracts.

Stay united, stay strong, and together we will achieve our goals.

In Solidarity,

Your 2015 U.S. Steel Bargaining Committee
