USW Cares: Local Union 675 partner with community leaders to feed those in need this Thanksgiving

giveaway1More than 200 families in Maywood, California, were able to enjoy a Happy Thanksgiving because of the kindness and generosity of USW Local Union 675.

675’s Xochitl Cobarruvias partnered with former Mayor of Maywood Felipe Aguillar and Ramon Medina to collect 200 turkeys; and Labor Community Services supplied the cranberries, stuffing, mashed potatoes and veggies.

On November 24, Local Union 675 members, CW Smith SOAR chapter members and volunteers from the Iglesia del Señor Church and Betañia Church youth groups distributed the meals to members of the community.

giveaway2This was the local’s first turkey giveaway, but they hope to continue the tradition for years to come. Throughout the rest of the year, the local runs a food bank from their union hall on the last Tuesday of every month that is open to all community members.

This project is just one of so many USW's amazing members do every day to give back to our communities. If you or your local are doing good things, we want to hear about it!
