USW Cares: United Way of Central Massachusetts Honors USW Local 2285

USW Local 2285 Community Services Committee is honored at the United Way of Central Massachusetts 95 annual community celebration with the Labor Community Services hero award.

Presented by the United Way of Central Massachusetts and the Central Massachusetts AFL/CIO Community Services Committee, this next award is given to a member or friend of organized labor who has demonstrated outstanding personal commitment and involvement that strengthens and improves our community. This year’s recipient is The United Steelworkers Local 2285 community service committee.

The USW Local 2285 community service committee has been in existence for nearly 30 years, and in that time they have done great things for our community. They raise nearly $50,000 each year for the United Way campaign and over the past 30 years equals approximately two million dollars, and they participate in our Day of Caring. But their commitment doesn’t stop there. Every single year, they run a holiday food drive and a holiday toy drive. They collect and deliver almost 300 turkeys to local agencies at Thanksgiving and at Christmas they collect food that feeds over 80 families and toys for over 100 children – and most of those toys go to the children of the Central Mass AFL/CIO.

District 4 would like to thank the following members for their dedication to the community services committee, Bob Stake, Kevin Casella, Jimmy Jacques, Jim Lozier, Tom Baribeault, Ken Johnson and Joe Mattero.
