On April 8, 2015, Sandi Butterbaugh called the Local Union 1-801 President asking for help, she was in need of a wheelchair ramp due to neuropathy in her legs caused by chemo treatments. Sandi, who is battling cancer for the second time in 18 months, usually doesn't ask for help. Much to her surprise, on April 12, five guys from the local showed up eager to build her a ramp.
Sandi, who has been Recording Secretary of the local for the last 19 years, said “I love these guys so much. They are always there when needed.”
“Sandi is one of the finest Union Sisters I know and is always there for others,” said Bob Andrews staff representative. “It's great to see the Local Union there in her time of need. I know Sandi will win this battle as she has won many others and like everyone else I look forward to getting her back.”
“I'm not surprised by this Local's generosity and willingness to help others,” added District 1 Director Dave McCall. “It is a value they have shown in the short time they have been in office and I look forward seeing them continue to grow as a Local. Sandi embodies the slogan “ONE DAY LONGER, ONE DAY STRONGER.”
